CANADIAN REVIEW - emusclemag.com by Garry Bartlett

Most readers were probably still in diapers when Hamilton, Ontario's intensively competitive Mike Watson virtually tore up the Canadian bodybuilding scene with his unique brand of bone-dry muscularity in the late '70s and early '80s. Despite his awesome physique, which included legendary vascularity and striated muscle density, Watson was better known for his fiercely competitive and aggressive stage antics. Any brave competitor who stood in his path was likely to experience a shove, an intimidating glare, or choice words of discouragement. 25 Years later, Mike has a successful chain of gyms in the Hamilton area and has managed to pass on the bodybuilding bug.

At this spring's Festival City Championships in Stratford, the legend of Watson returned in his 21-year-old son, 5'8'' 210-pound Zane, who's already striking fear in his competitors' hearts. When Zane walked onstage, the clock seemed to turn back 25 years. As the saying goes, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Mike, who coached and trained his son, was a proud papa as he sat and watched Zane dazzle the packed auditorium by winning the heavyweight class and then the overall championship title. Sporting the same kind of extreme muscle density, Zane is the spitting image of his famous dad. He fully intends to follow in his footsteps by re-establishing the legacy the great Mike Watson set over 25 years ago.

For the first time in Canadian history from Level 1 to Pro in 39 months

Zane entered his first contest in Stratford Ontario in 2010. No one was aware (including the judges) that Zane was showing up and that he was the son of the famous Mike Watson (2x Canadian National Champion 1978, 1979)

It was amazing, like going back in time 35 years. Zane was good looking, composed, with extreme balance, shape, symmetry and mind-blowing muscularity. He won 1st place in the Heavyweight division and the overall title.

Zane's second contest was only five weeks later, the provincials, Mr. Ontario. Zane came away with another outstanding first place win which qualified him for the nationals in his first year of competing.

The Nationals were in Lavel, Quebec that year. They made some mistakes during their contest prep and Zane still placed a respectable third as a Heavyweight. Next up was Edmonton the following year, where Zane placed first in the Heavyweight division. In 2012, Zane competed at the Nationals in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Zane tore the stage apart, receiving a first place win and was awarded his Pro Card.

Zane is honoured to represent his country at the World Level and to be an ambassador to the sport of Bodybuilding in Canada.
